Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin paid a state visit to the DPRK from July 19 to 20 at the invitation of General Secretary Kim Jong Il of the Workers' Party of Korea. General Secretary Kim Jong Il warmly greeted President Putin at Pyongyang Airport. The DPRK and Russia issued a 11-point joint declaration signed by the two leaders.
