South
Koreans Continue Anti-U.S. Struggle

Thousands
of South Koreans have staged nationwide anti-U.S. demonstrations all over South
Korea to protest the acquittal of two U.S. soldiers who was driving a military
vehicle which hit and killed two teenage Korean girls, demanding a retrial of
the suspects in a South Korean court and a revision of the U.S.-South Korea
Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA).

In
Seoul, about 100,000 indignant citizens marched holding lighted candles of
indignation and filled the streets near the Seoul City Hall. In the march,
called the “Pan-National Grand Peace March,” the marchers shouted, “Punish
the American murderers!” “Rewrite SOFA” and “George Bush, apologize to
us in public!” The December 14th was declared to be “the day of regaining
our self-determination and our national pride.” The demonstration was

to the KCNA, anti-US marches were also held in Pusan, Daegu, and other cities in
South Korea. Overseas Koreans marched in the United States, Japan, Germany,
France, Sweden, Russia, Australia, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand.
Over
1,500 Korean residents and Americans reportedly staged candlelight
demonstrations in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities of
the United States on December 14, timed to coincide with anti-U.S.
demonstrations held in South Korea.
