Kim Gwang Ok and Ryu Myong Ok Defend their Championships

WBCF Championships Held in Pyongyang


Matches for winning and defending WBCF championships were held at Ryugyong Jong Ju Yong Gymnsium in Pyongyang on October 21.

Kim Gwang Ok defended her championship of WBCF bantamweight.

Kim Gwang Ok and Ryu Myong Ok, who were its champions, defended their championships.

The defending matches were held on a two-minute ten-round basis.

Bantamweight title-holder Kim Gwang Ok of the DPRK defeated Yazmin Rivas of Mexico 3-0 by decision (100-95, 100-88, 100-91). She defended her championship with her fierce attacks from the first round.

Ryu Myong Ok, super flyweight title-holder of the DPRK, knocked down Alicia Ashley of the United States 3-0 by decision (97-94, 97-93, 98-92).

Ryu Myong Ok defeated an opponent by decision and defended her title.

The belts, trophies and diplomas were awarded to Kim Gwang Ok and Ryu Myong Ok, who distinguished themselves in the defensive bouts after capturing the championships in last June.

After the match, Kim Gwang Ok said, "I regret not to have got a K.O from my opponent, but I am really glad to win my first defensive match".

"I just barely won the match because of lack of composure. I will learn this lesson and defend my championship", Ryu Myong Ok said.

A match for a light fly-weight championship qualifier was held on the same day on a two-minute eight-round basis. In the match, DPRK pro-boxer Han Yong Sun KO'd her opponent Prani Panamake of Thailand at 1 minute 20seconds in the first round and received a diploma.

Meanwhile, three friendship matches of inter-Korean men and women pro boxers took place, with a woman player and two men players participating in them from each side.
