Liquors Made in DPR Korea


Here we introduce north Korean-made liquors. 
Descriptions below are: 1) name; 2) alcohol content; 3) price; and 4) general impression of taste.

Taepyongsul (rice liquor)

Alcohol content 40%

Price 8.6 won

Rice-flavored. It tastes like soju (distilled spirit) rather than sake.

Tolkkotsul (soju)

43%

4 won

An herbal medicine-like scent and flavor spreads in a mouth. 
 Its taste is similar to that of a ginseng liquor but rather milder.

Yangdoksul (acorn liquor)

40%

3.5 won

Typical flavor of Korean soju. 
It slightly tastes of acorn.

 

Sinyangsul (soju)

40%

3.5 won

A descent scent of a Korean soil floats in a mouth. Free from soju-related strong odor and tastes palatable.

Pothaesansul (soju)

1.5 won

Reasonable price considering its palatable taste. Some swig away and others shy away.

Hwangjongsul (soju)

Piquant taste with a typical soju-related spicy flavor.

Taesonngsul (waxy rice liquor)

0.8 won

Low alcohol concentration for a Korean liquor. It tastes like a Japanese refined sake.

Totorisul (acorn liquor)

Typical soju-related flavor with pungent smell of acorn.

Pyongyangsul (vodka)

Burning taste. It makes a clear distinction from other “quaffable” liquors.
